Jan. 11: Former Wildcats face off

Two former Enterprise teammates stood on opposite sidelines for the 2012 BCS National Championship game in January.

Parker Stinnett, a 2008 EHS graduate, was a kicker on the University of Alabama football team. The Crimson Tide won its 14th national title following a 21-0 victory against LSU. Ken Adams, who also graduated from Enterprise, spent two seasons as a starting defensive end for LSU and ended his collegiate career in the title game.

Feb. 22: Enterprise Elite

The Enterprise boys basketball team advanced to the Central Regional Final in 2012 after a 58-51 win against Sidney Lanier. Trailing by two points with less than four minutes to play, the Wildcats outscored Lanier 17-6 during the final stretch to secure the victory. The win put Enterprise into the Class 6A Elite Eight for the first time since 2007. Carver, which was the state’s top-ranked team, ended the Wildcats’ season in the Central Regional Final. Enterprise finished with a 23-7 record.

May 2: EHS tennis teams play well at state

The Enterprise girls tennis team played for a 2012 doubles state championship. Mary Evelyn Owens and Hannah Muller won against Gadsden, Fairhope and Hewitt-Trusville to advance to the state finals before losing to Vestavia. The boys team finished in 12th place.

May 9: Headed to Huntsville

The Enterprise Wildcats advanced to their second consecutive state soccer Final Four with a 3-1 win against Davidson. Jeffrey Palomarez scored two goals in the match and Jacob Davis added another. The trip to the Final Four would not have been possible without a thrilling comeback against Dothan. The Tigers led 2-0 at the half before Zack Davis, Christiaan Mauldin and Ryan Holub scored to give Enterprise a 3-2 win. The Wildcats reached the the semifinals this year before losing to 3-0 eventual Class 6A state champion Auburn.

May 9: EHS baseball makes playoff run

The Enterprise baseball team advanced to the third round of the Class 6A state playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Enterprise beat Jeff Davis and Northview to advance to the third round, in which the Wildcats lost a two-game series against Central-Phenix City. The Red Devils won both games by a combined three runs, and one of the losses came in extra innings. Enterprise finished the 2012 season with a 25-16 overall record.

May 23: Signing for success

Enterprise High School celebrated the accomplishments of its student-athletes during signing ceremonies. The school saw a total of 24 Wildcat athletes from the class of 2012 sign scholarships to colleges and universities.

Aug. 1: Junior Dixie Boys take home state championship

The Enterprise Junior Dixie Boys baseball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 against A.U.M and take home a state title. The team beat Opelika 17-4 to earn a trip to the state championship game. With the state title came the right to represent Alabama in the Junior Dixie Boys World Series, which was played in Christiansburg, Va. Enterprise beat Texas, Madison Heights, Va., and Mississippi. The team took home a third-place finish in the tournament.

Oct. 17: Fight to the finish

Enterprise enjoyed a memorable, 7-4 football season in coach David Faulkner’s first season at the helm of the EHS program. One of the highlights of the 2012 season was a dramatic, 27-24 victory against Dothan, in which Tyrel Lane caught a 9-yard touchdown pass on the game’s final play. The win was one of four Class 6A, Region 2 victories for the Wildcats, who moved to a new region this season and made a playoff appearance.

Oct. 31: Freshman Cats cap perfect season

The Enterprise freshman football team completed an undefeated 2012 season when it handed Carroll a 20-6 loss in the season’s final game. The Wildcats ended the year with an unblemished, 8-0 record. Enterprise faced a tough schedule, and emerged with wins against Phenix City, Smiths Station, Dothan, Northview and others.

Nov. 14: EHS cross country runs well at state

The Enterprise cross country team saw six of its runners achieve personal bests at the 2012 state meet. Ka-Jong Matsunaga, Zoe Penko, Madison Rackley, Caroline Moore, Ragin Berry and Yona Andrews all set new records. The girls team placed ninth. The boys sent two individuals — Myles Osborne and Zane Wilson — to the meet, and they also represented Enterprise well. Osborne broke the school record for the boys 5,000 meter with a time of 16:55.

Dec. 5 EHS swims in state finals

For the first time since 2002, the Enterprise swim team competed in the state finals. The boys 400 freestyle relay team of Chris Alpeter, Jacob Estall, Jacob Garcia and Zach Neudecker placed 15th and earned the right to return for the finals. The swim team also fared well in other races, and hopes to make another trip to the finals next year.
