A Level Plains police officer was arrested for burglary on Monday, Feb. 6.
According to Enterprise Police Department Public Information Officer Billy Haglund, at 9 a.m. on Monday, the EPD responded to a domestic call in the 600 Block of County Road 539.
The victim reported that the suspect arrived at the residence to conduct a scheduled child custody exchange with (the victim's) wife.
According to the victim, while speaking with the suspect in the doorway of the residence, a physical altercation took place, Haglund said. The victim and witness allege that the suspect struck the victim in the doorway, which led the assault to continue inside the residence.
The victim was struck multiple times by the suspect, causing physical injury to the victim's face and head.
The suspect left the residence before EPD officers arrived on scene, Haglund said.
Sean Bryant Christopher, 27, of Enterprise, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 6 and charged with first-degree burglary at Enterprise City Hall.
He has been released from the Coffee County Jail on a $15,000 bond. Bryant was employed with the Level Plains Police Department at the time of his arrest.
He was previously employed with the EPD from Dec. 10, 2014 to June 25, 2015, when he resigned from his position.
Level Plains Police Chief Billy Driggers said Bryant has been placed on administrative leave.
"The officer has been placed on administrative leave pending a complete and thorough investigation by this department, to include the final disposition of the charge he was placed under arrest for," Driggers said.
