The 17th Annual Rawls Ball will be launching the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Boll Weevil Monument.

This once-in-a-lifetime event will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at the historic Rawls Hotel in downtown Enterprise. Tickets are $40 a person and must be purchased in advance.

Cost of the ticket includes heavy hors d’oeuvres created by the Rawls’ chef, dancing to the DJ in the ball room and unlimited fun. Dress for the event is cocktail or formal for women, suit or tuxedo for men.

“Members of the Rawls Ball committee are humbled and honored to be asked to help celebrate this major milestone in glamour and style,” said committee co-chair LeeAnn Capps. “This event is about honoring and embracing our city’s rich heritage with pride and the historical significance the boll weevil had on the future of Enterprise.”

Along with the Boll Weevil’s centennial, it is an occasion to recognize 100 years since the Miss Enterprise pageant was formed.

“We couldn’t be happier that the Rawls Ball has chosen to add a Centennial theme to their annual event,” said Tourism Director Tammy Doerer. “We want to thank the Rawls Ball Committee for their continued charitable work and for incorporating the 100th Anniversary of the Boll Weevil Monument into their event. We hope everyone will come dance the night away in celebration of our history and to raise funds for a very worthwhile community program.”

Doerer said she and city leaders expect the ball to be followed by many other centennial events presented by community groups as well as the City of Enterprise.

The first Rawls Ball was a centennial celebration of the Rawls hotel turning 100 years-old in 2003. “It was an event to celebrate the hotels’ role as a vital part of our community’s past and future, so we are excited to be a part of another historical milestone,” Capps said.

From a centennial celebration to an annual charitable event, the Rawls Ball is now the largest fundraiser for the SOS Animal Shelter. Founded in 1981, SOS’s mission is to maintain a no-kill shelter and end the tragedy of pet overpopulation. They rescue and adopt neglected, abused and homeless dogs and cats – and receive no outside funding.

Tickets are available from many local vendors: SOS Animal Shelter, Rawls Restaurant, Navigator Development Group Inc., David’s Salon at WestGate, Yancey Parkers, White Oak Ale House, Banana’s, Just Shear Madness (Daleville), Century 21, Consignment Cat, Shopaholic and committee members.

You must be at least 21 to attend.

Tickets can be purchased online through SOS’s PayPal account [email protected]. To purchase tickets online, contact the shelter at (334) 393-1743. Tickets will have to be picked up onsite.
