Army Chief of Staff to speak at breakfast
The Fort Rucker-Wiregrass Chapter Association of the United States Army will host a General Membership Breakfast Tuesday, April 2, at 7:30 a.m. at The Landing, Fort Rucker.
Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, Army Chief of Staff, will be the featured speaker. Gen. Odierno, a four-star general, is the highest-ranking uniformed officer in the Department of the Army. In addition to Gen. Odierno, there will also be guests from the Pentagon, Capitol Hill, state leaders as well as AUSA national attendees.
A large turnout is needed from the Wiregrass to show the importance of Fort Rucker to our area. Tickets are $10 per person or $100 per table of 10. Extension holds home fruit workshop
The Alabama Extension System is sponsoring a Backyard Fruit Workshop at 9 a.m. March 28.
The event will be held at the Dale County Government Building in Ozark. Admission is $10 per person and participants will learn the basics of home fruit production.
The workshop will cover many of the most commonly grown fruit in southern Alabama. Soil testing, pest management and drip irrigation will also be discussed.

Relay for Life pageant scheduled for April 6
The Coffee County Relay for Life Pageant, sponsored by Pinedale Elementary Team Riley, is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at College Street Elementary School. Pageant participants must be between the ages of 6 months to 21 years old. Entry fee is $50 with an optional $10 fee to enter most photogenic. The last day for registration is March 29. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Insurance law changes
Beginning Jan. 1, the vehicle registration office will verify liability insurance status of every vehicle. A current insurance card which includes the policy number and insurance company number (NAIC) must be shown. A valid ID for each individual listed on the vehicle registration is also required. The Alabama Mandatory Liability Insurance Law provides that no person shall operate, register, or maintain registration of a motor vehicle unless it is covered by a liability insurance policy, Section §32-7A-5, Code of Alabama. DAV office moves
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 9, of Enterprise-Coffee County, has moved. The new office is located at 200 W. Watts Street in Enterprise, behind Grocery Outlet off Main Street. Fire hydrant testing begins
The City of Enterprise Fire Department has begun annual fire hydrant testing. Testing will started inside the circle and will move outward.
Residents should understand that the city is not wasting water, but that this testing is vital to the maintenance and upkeep of the city fire department, and helps ensure citizens safety in the event of an emergency.
If residents should notice a discoloration of their water, allow a water faucet to run until it clears up. If you have any questions, please call the Water Department at (334) 348-2652.

The Alabama Department of Transportation reminds motorists that they can check the conditions of Alabama’s state and federal highways on the Road Conditions page of the ALDOT Web site at www.dot.state.al.us.
ALDOT makes preparations and mobilizes personnel and resources across the state to respond to icy bridge/road conditions and other adverse impacts from winter storms. ALDOT will continue to monitor the roadways to make our highways as safe as possible.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution and be alert for work zones and highway maintenance personnel.
