The 19th Annual Coffee County Breast Cancer and Women’s Health Issues Forum will focus on changes in breast cancer and its treatment, information about general health and news about local medical facilities.

The forum will be held next Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Enterprise City Schools Service Center on Highway 84 next to Mitchell Nissan.

The list of speakers include Dr. Helen Krontier, medical director of UAB’s Breast Health Center; Dr. Steve Stokes, a radiation oncologist with Enterprise Cancer Center; Dr. Elisha Collins, general surgeon with Sawyer Surgery Clinic; Jim Duhaime, licensed certified counselor; Dr. Sam Sawyer, of Saywer Surgery Clinic; Dr. Christy Edwards, of Medical Center Enterprise; and, Suzanne Woods, CEO of MCE.

Krontier, the main speaker for the event, has researched prevention and risk assessment of breast cancer, according to CCFS Director Judy Crowley.

Krontier will speak about new information about breast cancer.

“She’s right on the cutting edge of what is brand new,” Crowley said.

“Understanding Breast Cancer” is the topic Stokes will present to attendees on Tuesday. Crowley said he will also focus on new changes in radiation treatment.

Collins will speak about health disparities as well as breast cancer information for members of the African American community.

Duhaime will speak to forum attendants about grief and how to manage that grief after a death or illness.

Saywer will speak to attendants about the connection between a person’s attitude and their health and wellness.

Edwards’ topic is titled “Contemporary Emergency Room Heart Attack and Stroke Care.” She will focus on the care of female heart attack and stroke patients.

Woods will speak about MCE and the services it provides.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The registration table opens at 7:15 a.m.

The Women’s Trio will provide entertainment, and door prizes will be given out throughout the event. Prizes have been donated by local businesses and organizations.

Lunch will be provided to those who attend. Continuing Education Units will also be available for nurses and social workers, and Avon’s Beads of Hope will be presented to all attending.

Thank you so much for sharing such an informative and useful post. I have been following such cancer awareness programs with my wife since she was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago. After her treatment at the Best radiation therapy New York ( http://www.advancedradiationcenters.com/cancers/breast-cancer/ ), she is cancer free now. Being a cancer survivor, she knows the pain the cancer patient might have to face and thus, she likes to contribute foe the people in need.
