The city of Enterprise is making preparations for the planned expansion of Highway 167 North from Boll Weevil Circle to Salem Road.

During the April 16 city council meeting, council members approved a motion establishing an agreement between the city and the Alabama Department of Transportation to relocate sewer utilities along the highway.

All costs associated with the utility relocation will be reimbursed by the state.

Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell said this is a project the city has been working on for quite some time, and hopefully this is the first leg of the process beginning.

Utilities being relocated include gas, water and sewer lines and will cost about $1.5 million.

Boswell said once all the utilities are relocated the widening of the road should begin shortly thereafter.

The entire widening project will cost about $21 million.

Council members also passed a motion to enter into an agreement with Polyengineering, Inc. to act as consulting engineers in the relocation process.

Councilmembers also agreed to enter into an agreement with Polyengineering, Inc. for general engineering planning and consulting services on an on-going basis for miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned for a four-year period for a monthly compensation of $5,000.
