A deteriorating bridge on Northside Drive in Enterprise will soon be replaced after members of the Enterprise City Council approved a construction bid June 4.
Council members unanimously approved a bid from G.W. Norrell Contracting Co., Inc., of Georgiana, to handle the construction.
The approved bid was for $207,000 and consisted of the base bid for the bridge replacement and an additive alternate for Alabama Department of Environmental Management storm water permitting and compliance.
Councilman Kirk Donaldson said the current bridge is wooden, and an upgrade is much needed.
Construction is expected to begin within the next few months.
Another road project council members discussed regarded the second phase of the Dauphin Street project.
Councilmembers approved a motion to enter into an agreement with CDG Engineers & Associates, Inc. for design services related to the preparation of construction plans.
The project, which has been separated into two phases, includes the repaving and replacement of all utilities along the roadway.
Construction is expected to begin by December of this year.
A third phase, which is currently being applied for, will include the repaving of Coppinville Road.
In other news, a resolution was passed increasing the pay grade for the water department billing and accounting coordinator.
City Clerk Steve Hicks said the change was made in order to attract someone with higher qualifications and experience associated with the position.
Council members also unanimously agreed on a nomination from Councilman William Cooper to appoint Esther Moore to the Library Board to serve a four-year term.
The next city council meeting is at 6 p.m., June 18, at city hall.
