Ambulance crashes transporting patient

A Coffee County Emergency Medical Service ambulance was involved in a single-vehicle accident in the early morning hours Sunday on U.S. Highway 84 west of Elba.

At about 4:30 a.m., the ambulance and two EMS workers were transporting a patient to an Opp hospital when it left the roadway near mile marker 156 and overturned.

According to Trooper Kevin Cook with the Alabama State Troopers, one of the EMS workers was airlifted by medevac helicopter to Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Another EMS worker was transported to Enterprise Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, and the patient was transported to the Opp hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
