Former Country Crossings developer Ronnie Gilley will be free for at least another two weeks before he turns himself in to federal authorities to serve a 6.5 year sentence.

Gilley had previously been granted one extension from U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson, extending his original  Aug. 27 report date to Sept. 24.

On Tuesday, Thompson granted an additional two week extension. Gilley is now scheduled to turn himself in to authorites Oct. 8.

A longer extension of 120 days has been requested and may be granted once the state consults with the Bureau of Prisons on whether Gilley can recover from Thursday's surgery while incarcerated.

Both of Gilley's extensions were granted because he is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed medical condition.

The 6.5 year sentence stems from Gilley's guilty plea in connection with a statewide vote-buying scheme. Gilley was sentenced July 16 alongside former state Rep. Terry Spicer and former lobbyist Jarrod Massey.

Spicer and Massey are currently incarcerated in federal prisons in Illinois and Montgomery, respectively.
