Enterprise schools celebrate Read Across America Week

Nearly 20 years ago, a small reading task force at the National Education Association came up with an idea designed to get children excited about reading and to celebrate noted children’s author Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
They decided to call it Read Across America and on March 2, 1998, the first celebration was held. Studies confirm that youngsters who are motivated to spend more time reading do better in school so motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement.
Last week, Enterprise City Schools joined schools nationwide in celebrating Read Across America Week with activities that included parades, costumes and special lunches.
City and school officials joined grandparents and other community leaders reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books to school children in Enterprise City Schools.
