An illegal immigrant and known sex offender was arrested by the Daleville Police Department July 16 after he allegedly tried to meet a young girl at a business in Daleville.
Daleville investigator Lt. Kenny Jackson said Jose Luis Montez, 37, of Mexico, has a long criminal history, numerous sex charges, two active warrants and at least eight known aliases.
Montez was arrested the morning of July 16 after the parents of a 15-year-old girl reported he was making contact with their daughter over the Internet.
During the investigation, Jackson said agents arranged a meeting with Montez through the 15-year-old girl, where he was arrested and charged for electronic solicitation of a child.
“He’s got at least eight different aliases that we know of,” Jackson said. “He was carrying a fake ID and a fake Social Security card.”
Jackson reports Montez has two active warrants in Corpus Christi, Texas, for failure to register as a sex offender and sexual assault of a child, which was issued in February.
Montez’s criminal history in Texas includes two driving while intoxicated charges and failure to comply with the sex offender law.
Montez is a registered sex offender in Florida, where he also has a long criminal history.
The suspect’s criminal history under eight different aliases in Florida include: shoplifting, second-degree larceny, petty theft, several counts of burglary, possession of stolen property, disorderly conduct, failure to appear, a fraudulent check, possession of alcohol on a public street, sexual battery, sexual assault, lewd assault and sexual battery of a victim under 16, probation violation and numerous traffic violations.
Montez has since been booked into the Dale County Jail under no bond.
At the time of his arrest, Jackson said Montez was living with a girlfriend in Enterprise who has a child.
“He was living with children and still out searching for other victims,” Jackson said.
Jackson said he wants people to understand that sexual predators can live anywhere and to be careful.
“We just want to let people know that this guy was living right here among us in the Enterprise/Daleville area, and he’s what we would consider a sexual predator,” he said. “He has a long history of sexually-related charges.”
If convicted, Montez will face charges in Alabama and Texas, and later be deported back to Mexico.
In other crime, a corrections officer at a state prison in Graceville, Fla., was arrested Aug. 1 for child solicitation by computer.
Alexander Lee Williams, 25, of Dothan was arrested on Friday after he allegedly tried to meet a minor at Daleville Inn and Apartments around 4 p.m.
Williams was taken to the Dale County Jail, and was bonded out Aug. 2 under a $10,000 bond.
“He doesn’t have a criminal history,” Jackson said. “What concerns us about him is that he’s a corrections officer. He’s in the law enforcement community. That’s proof to show you that anybody can be out there talking to your child.”
Jackson said this is another example of why parents need to keep track of what their children are doing on their social media accounts and electronic devices.
“(Residents) check your children,” he said. “See what they’re doing. See who they’re talking to on the internet. Just be nosey.”
Residents are asked to contact the Daleville Police Department if they believe their child may be a victim of a child solicitation crime.
