Authorities are searching for a suspect following an attempted traffic stop, according to Coffee County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Ronnie Whitworth.
Whitworth said that around 9 a.m., an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency officer attempted to perform a traffic stop on County Road 137 for not having a license plate.
Whitworth said the vehicle did not stop, leading to a chase.
According to Whitworth, ALEA has one individual in custody following the chase. Officers with the CCSO, ALEA, the U.S. Marshalls and other organizations are currently searching for Jeffrey Scott, according to Whitworth.
Scott is an escaped inmate from Loxley Work Release Center. He was sentenced to 35 years in 2002 for trafficking amphetamines, according to an escape report.
Scott did not return from his assigned job on June 23, according to the report.
Whitworth said it is unclear if Scott was armed, but he should be considered dangerous.
