Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, search and rescue officials located the body of a five-year-old girl who went missing while swimming in the Choctawhatchee River in Clayhatchee Sunday, May 15. The child is from Enterprise, according to authorities.
At around 3:40 p.m. Sunday, according to Chief Deputy Mason Bynum, the Dale County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Clayhatchee boat ramp in reference to the possible drowning of the girl.
Bynum said the girl was swimming with two other siblings when she went under the water. The two other siblings were rescued by a citizen on the beach, he said.
Bynum said the sheriff's office will not be releasing the girl's identity due to her age.
