Lt. Col. Christopher Don Wood, 46, was found guilty of attempted sexual abuse of a child Sunday evening, after a two-day court martial at Fort Rucker.

Wood, who was transferring from another post to Maxwell Air Force Base, was reassigned after his arrest to Fort Rucker for the duration of the case, according to a Fort Rucker Public Affairs Office release.

Under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, being convicted of attempted sexual abuse of a child means Wood was found guilty of indecent conduct, which amounts to a form of immorality relating to sexual impurity which is grossly vulgar, obscene and repugnant to common propriety, in the presence of or via any communication technology, with a person he thought was a minor, according to the release.

Sentencing for Wood is set for June 4. He faces the potential to serve up to 15 years confinement at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and a mandatory dishonorable dismissal from the Army.

He will have to register as a sex offender.

Wood was first arrested as part of a Daleville police undercover operation in 2014. State charges for child solicitation were dropped by Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams once the Army stepped in to prosecute.

According to past reports, Wood traveled to the county to meet a teenaged girl on July 3, 2014.
