BOE chooses Harrison as principal at EHS

Brent Harrison has been chosen as the new principal for Enterprise High School at the Enterprise Board of Education meeting Tuesday, Aug. 29.

The position has been open since Enterprise High School Principal Matt Rodgers was nominated and approved for the position of president of Enterprise State Community College Wednesday, Aug. 9, during the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees meeting in Montgomery.

Rodgers was Enterprise High School principal since 2011. Before that he served as an assistant principal, a teacher and a coach at EHS. Rodgers will start at ESCC Sept. 1.

Following Rodger’s appointment, Enterprise City Schools Superintendent Greg Faught said that the position was posted immediately and advertised for 14 days, as required by law.

Faught said that of the people who applied for the post, five were interviewed.

After interviews, the field was narrowed to three finalists: Enterprise High School Assistant Principals Ricky Britt and Brent Harrison, and Coppinville Assistant Principal Debbie Hope.

“We were looking for a well rounded administrator,” Faught said. “A principal needs to be dynamic, a leader of people, very strong in finance and strong in curriculum.

“A principal needs to be a manager of the physical operations of the school. In Enterprise we take a lot of pride in the cleanliness of our schools,” Faught said. “A principal needs to be accessible not only to the teachers but the public as well.”

Brent Harrison

Brent Harrison has served as an assistant principal at Enterprise High School since 2011.

In the 2015-2016 school year, Harrison was hired as principal at Charles Henderson High School. He returned to Enterprise High School in 2016 as an assistant principal and has served in that capacity since.

From 2005 until 2011, Harrison taught at Enterprise High School as an 11th and 10th grade U.S. History teacher and from 2005 until 2009 as a ninth through 12th grade history teacher. He served also as a varsity football, varsity boys tennis and ninth grade boys basketball coach.

Since 2009, Harrison has taught ninth, 10th and 11th grade history for the Alabama State Department of Education’s ACCESS program at Troy University Regional Center.

Harrison began his educational career at Duluth High School as a 10th grade history teacher and a varsity football and junior varsity boys basketball and junior varsity girls basketball coach.

Harrison has a master’s degree in education from the University of Montevallo.

Ricky Britt

Ricky Britt has served since 2007 as an assistant principal at Enterprise High School.

An Enterprise High School and Alabama State University graduate, Britt served as a math teacher in LaGrange High School in Georgia after graduation from college, returning to Enterprise in 1988.

Britt served from 1989 until 2001 as a math teacher and assistant football coach at Enterprise High School. Britt served at Dauphin Junior High School in Enterprise from 2001 until 2007 as assistant principal and math teacher.

Britt was named the 2017 Enterprise High School Educator of the Year.

He has a master’s degree in education from Troy University.

Debbie Hope

Debbie Hope serves currently as the assistant principal at Coppinville Junior High School, a position she has held since 2014.

From 2013 until 2014, Hope served as assistant principal at Dauphin Junior High School in Enterprise.

Hope served from 2010 until 2013 as the principal at Slocomb Middle School in Slocomb.

From 2009-2010, Hope served as assistant principal at Slocomb High School in Slocomb.

Hope was a special education teacher at Enterprise High School from 1997 until 2009.

She worked as a job developer/job coach with Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center in Dothan from 1994 until 1997.

Prior to that, Hope was a substitute teacher with the Enterprise City Schools.

Hope has a master’s degree in educational leadership from Troy University.
