A student at Enterprise High School has been arrested after bringing a gun to school and showing it to another on the first day of school.

The Enterprise Police Department initiated an investigation on Tuesday, Aug. 16, regarding an EHS student carrying a concealed weapon on campus, according to Public Information Officer Billy Haglund. EHS officials notified the EPD after they became aware of the offense, Haglund said.

During the course of the investigation, Haglund said, it was discovered that the student concealed a handgun on his person and showed it to another student on campus on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Haglund said EPD officers conducted a search of the student's home and recovered the firearm.

EHS Principal Matt Rodgers released a statement regarding the offense.

"It was reported on Aug. 16 that a weapon was allegedly on the EHS campus at some point in time on the first day of school (Aug. 4)," Rodgers said. "The EHS administration immediately conducted an investigation into the matter and passed its findings along to the School Resource Officer Sgt. Adair Lee and the Enterprise Police Department.

“The safety of our students is always at the forefront of everything we do. This type of conduct will not be tolerated at Enterprise High School or in any of our schools in the ECS district. We are fortunate to have wonderful students that take pride in attending Enterprise High School. While we are disappointed in the actions of this student, we are fortunate we have open lines of communication among our students, staff, and the Enterprise Police Department which allowed us to resolve the matter in a swift and timely manner.”

"The Enterprise Police Department would like to thank the Enterprise High School staff for their assistance and professionalism during the investigation," Haglund said.

The student, a juvenile whose name was not given, was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.
