There is a new phone scam in town and the Enterprise Police Department caution the public to be aware of it.

According to EPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Billy Haglund, the potential victim will receive a phone call from a subject purporting to be a representative of Alabama Power.

The subject will inform them that if their bill is not paid within the hour, their power will be cut off, Haglund said. “The police made contact with Alabama Power and they advised us that this is not proper protocol for employees.

“These scams are very elaborate including lots of details about the potential victim including names, phone numbers and possibly account numbers,” Haglund said. “Alabama Power advised that if you receive this phone call, you may call them to report the incident.”

Alabama Power can be contacted by phone 1-800-245-2244 or via the internet at www.alabamapower.com.
