The public is invited to attend the unveiling of a historic marker May 30 at 10 a.m. at former Gov. "Big" Jim Folsom's birthplace in Elba.

Some of Folsom's children will be present for the unveiling of the Alabama Historical Commission marker on Putman Street next to the former county jail.

The home was moved in 2003 from its original location just outside of Elba to its current location.

The home has been on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage since 1976, however, a marker was never purchased.

As a historical preservation project, the John Coffee Daughters of the American Revolution purchased a marker for the home as part of the organization's 50th anniversary.

A luncheon celebrating the anniversary will follow at Elba United Methodist Church.

Folsom, the only Coffee County native to serve as governor, served two terms from 1947-1951 and from 1955-1959.
