Area families are in for a real treat May 3 as the Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the 16th Annual Children’s Festival in the Park.

Amusement, refreshment, entertainment and enjoyment are on the agenda for the festival, which will end with a spectacular fireworks display in the night sky over the Enterprise Recreation Complex.

Warren Bowron, Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department program coordinator, is bursting with excitement in anticipation of 6,000 to 6,500 youngsters and their family members and friends arriving at the complex beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

“We have something for all ages to enjoy,” Bowron said. “We will have games and activities like train rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and even karaoke for those who like to have fun singing.”

Inflatable activities are expected to be popular among the youngsters, as always, and for those who would rather just “cool it” for a while, the Rotary Splash Pad will be open.

The event’s corporate sponsors will also host a variety of kid-friendly games. This year’s corporate sponsors are Enterprise Pediatrics, Mitchell Automotive Group, Candlewood Suites, Enterprise Medical Clinic, Wal-Mart, Coldwell Banker, Centurylink, Sam Boswell Honda, Westgate Vet Hospital and Hillcrest Baptist Church, and many more.

Bowron said the sponsorships enable the Recreation Department to bring this event to the public completely free of charge, except for food, which will be served once again by the Enterprise Rotary Club. The Rotary Club uses proceeds from the festival to help fund and maintain the Rotary-sponsored park playground and splash pad.

Live entertainment begins at approximately 7 p.m. with a local Country and Southern Rock group, County Road 440.

Shortly after night falls, the fireworks will create brightly colored patterns in the sky that kids and grown-ups alike are sure to find awe-inspiring.

“Spring is in the air; the weather’s finally getting warmer and we’re ready to have a grand time in Enterprise on May 3,” Bowron said. “Come and enjoy the 16th Annual Children’s Festival in the Park.”
