The Elba Police Department responded to a traffic fatality at about 10:15 a.m., Friday, on Highway 84.
Authorities determined the 2000 Peterbilt (log truck) driven by Matthew Parrott of Live Oak Florida collided with a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger of the Jeep was transported to Medical Center Enterprise by Coffee County EMS and later transferred to Southeast Alabama Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.
The names of the occupants of the Jeep are being held pending notification of family.
The accident is under investigation by the Elba Police Department with the assistance of Alabama Department of Public Safety and the 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office.
