Officers responded to a local daycare the evening of Nov. 29 after getting a report that a child was left locked inside the building.
Officers responded to a call from parents at the daycare Step by Step, who went to the facility to pick up their child and found the business closed.
The parents advised they did not receive notification that the business was closing early that day.
Officers were unsuccessful in their attempt to contact the key holder of the business located at the intersection of Main Street and Dauphin Street in Enterprise.
After hearing a child crying from inside the building, officers breached the door and found an infant inside a crib in the daycare, unharmed.
The child was returned to its parents.
No arrests have been made in the case at this time. The matter is currently under investigation by detectives with the Enterprise Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.
Mellissa Bowdoin, who responded to the scene, was subsequently arrested on unrelated failure to appear warrants from the Dothan Police Department.
The business was open the next morning, however, appeared to be closed later in the afternoon.
According to the Department of Human Resources Information Director, Barry Spear, the department issued a letter to the owner of Step by Step notifying that their daycare license has been suspended as of Nov. 30. A notice was given to parents as they picked up their children that day.
