During a May 29 Enterprise City School Board meeting, board member Gloria Jones was voted by her fellow board members to be the next school board president.
Board member Bert Barr made a motion to nominate Jones and Jones made a motion to nominate Barr as vice president.
Superintendent Camille Wright thanked current board president Ross Cotter for his service to the school board.
"I've never met anybody that works as hard as you do," Wright said. "You held us accountable to be the best we can be."
Wright said Cotter put in a great deal of his time into the city's school system and in the process helped save money due to his close attention to the system's building projects and ensuring they were done correctly.
"You held our feet to the fire and we appreciate it," Wright said. "Thank you for your leadership."
Jones will take over as board president at the next regular school board meeting at 6 p.m., June 24.
In other news, board members approved a new vacation policy for 240-day employees that will allow personnel to carry over up to 20 unused vacation days into the next year.
The board passed a motion to increase the number of summer workers hired from 20 to 30, with the additional workers being paid through the federal programs fund and local school accounts.
A contract was approved with Nexcheck, which, at no cost to the school system, will handle bad checks written to the school system.
A motion was approved to allow the use of a school vehicle to transport six Junior Civitan Club members to a convention in Nashville, Tenn.
