Whether the City of Enterprise will allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays will be researched by the city attorney.

The Enterprise City Council heard a request by Larry Steck to allow Sunday alcohol sales in the city. The council agreed to ask City of Enterprise Attorney Rainer Cotter to research the feasibility of the request.

In other business, the council approved a one-year contract with the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce for the amount of $62,500. The amount is to be paid to the chamber quarterly and is for general funding, tourism assistance and hospitality functions.

The council also voted to continue with the Summer Food Service Program, which is funded by the State of Alabama Department of Education. The food program will serve between 800 and 1,000 children and all the expenditures related to the program are reimbursable to the city.

In other action, the council authorized the city clerk to enter into a financing and buy-back agreement for two garbage trucks for the city’s sanitation department in the amount of $764,544. The equipment would be purchased and financed for three years with a guaranteed buy-back from Ingram Equipment at the end of three years.

The trucks are in the budget, City Clerk Steve Hicks told the council. They will replace two garbage trucks recently destroyed in a fire. “The equipment will be purchased through state authorized purchasing contracts—HGAC Buy for the TYMCO Sweeper and NJPA for the garbage trucks and shuttle truck,” Hicks said.

The council also authorized Hicks to seek proposals for the financing of the equipment. The difference in the total three-year payment and guaranteed buy back price is $29,172, Hicks said.

The next city council meeting is Tuesday, March 17, at 6 p.m. at the Enterprise City Hall.

Well, according to our mayor the approval of draft beer would create new business in Enterprise. I am not seeing the great impact of draft beer as of yet. I guess approving sales of alcohol on Sunday will increase business. How has Enterprise made it all these years?
