Tommy Johnson Jr., is seeking a fifth term as District 2 city councilman.
Johnson is an Enterprise native and a product of Enterprise schools. He is a graduate of Enterprise State Junior College and Troy University, receiving a degree in Business Management. He has been in the construction contracting business in Enterprise for more than 25 years.
Johnson is an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher, as well as other church leadership positions. His focus on service includes assistance to Habitat for Humanity in the construction of homes. Selected as the Enterprise Man of the Year in 2009, Johnson has also served as president of the Second Congressional District.
Johnson said he has been privileged to serve as a city councilman during a period of tremendous growth in the city.
“Over 15 years on the city council has given me the opportunity to serve people in my district and throughout Enterprise in ways that I could never have imagined – helping to create jobs, providing services that make life easier and offering extras like recreational activities that add to their quality of life,” Johnson said. “I look forward to continuing to be of service by working to keep Enterprise on a path of growth and prosperity.”
During his terms, the city has established a stable budget, and has sought grants to help fund major city projects, including improvements at the Enterprise Airport, completion of the Civic Center and improvements at the city’s Parks and Recreation facilities, including paving the back entrance to the Sports Complex.
Construction and operation of a successful open-air Farmers Market, and a comprehensive rehabilitation project on Dauphin Street have been major accomplishments during Johnson’s latest term, along with an extensive city-wide paving project.
Seeking new industry will continue to be a goal in Johnson’s next term along with completing two new fire stations, continuing renovations at Bates Memorial Stadium, and building a skate park. A major endeavor will be to transform the College Street Elementary School building into a museum and cultural arts center. Other goals include more street resurfacing, continuing to upgrade police and fire equipment, and improving employees› salaries and benefits.
