The New Brockton football team's 34-20 win against Georgiana last Friday has paid off in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 2A poll.
The Gamecocks, who were ranked seventh in the preseason and seventh last week, have climbed to the sixth spot after their season-opening road win.
New Brockton (1-0) outranks No. 7 LaFayette (2-0), No. 8 Cleveland (1-0), No. 9 Tanner (0-2) and No. 10 Red Bay (2-0).
Elba will enter Friday's Class 2A, Region 3 showdown with NBHS as the top-ranked team.
Washington County (1-0) is second, followed by third-ranked Fyffe (1-0), No. 4 G.W. Long (1-0) and 2-0 Lanett in the fifth spot.
New Brockton will face the Tigers Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. inside Tiger Stadium in Elba.
