It’s official: election results approved

In a seven-minute special session Tuesday, Aug. 30, the Enterprise City Council officially approved the results of the Aug. 23 municipal election.

Incumbent Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell welcomed newly elected councilmen Eugene Goolsby, Perry Vickers and Turner Townsend, who will all take office Nov. 7.

Boswell was re-elected Aug. 23 with a total of 2,229 votes. Boswell received 2,176 voting machine votes, 50 absentee votes and three provisional votes.

Lister H. Reeves Jr. received a total of 931 votes. Reeves received 916 voting machine votes, 15 absentee votes and no provisional votes.

Milton L. Shipman Sr. received a total of 1,202 votes. Shipman received 1,171 voting machine votes, 29 absentee votes and two provisional votes.

DISTRICT 1

Incumbent District 1 Councilman Bill Cooper defeated political newcomer Anthony L. Britt with 305 votes to Britt’s 238.

Cooper received 298 voting machine votes, seven absentee votes and no provisional votes. Britt received 234 voting machine votes, three absentee votes and one provisional vote.

DISTRICT 2

Longtime Enterprise business owner Eugene Goolsby defeated incumbent councilman Tommy Johnson Jr. to win the District 2 city council seat. Goolsby had 662 votes to Johnson’s 377.

Goolsby received 645 voting machine votes, 16 absentee votes and one provisional vote. Johnson received 372 voting machine votes, five absentee votes and no provisional votes.

DISTRICT 3

Incumbent City Councilman Kirk Donaldson was defeated by long time retired educator Perry Vickers for the District 3 city council seat. Vickers earned 630 votes to Donaldson’s 494.

Vickers received 611 voting machine votes, 19 absentee votes and no provisional votes. Donaldson received 487 voting machine votes, seven absentee votes and no provisional votes.

DISTRICT 4

In District 4, Councilman Al Miller was unopposed and was officially certified the winner at an earlier Enterprise City Council meeting.

DISTRICT 5

Enterprise business owner Turner Townsend defeated incumbent councilman Rhett Marques for the District 5 city council seat. Townsend garnered 455 votes to Marques’ 348 votes.

Townsend received 440 voting machine votes, 15 absentee votes and no provisional votes.

Marques received 338 voting machine votes, 10 absentee votes and no provisional votes.

The new council’s four-year term begins Nov. 7 and ends the first Monday in November 2020.
