In addition to officially hiring Dr. Diane Flournoy as the new superintendent of Daleville City Schools, the Daleville Board of Education also hired four new teachers for the system.
Flournoy, who currently serves under the title of interim superintendent until July 1, recommended and the board approved the hiring of Robert McCall, high school science teacher; Samantha Krietemeyer, high school English teacher; Charlene McNair, high school business education teacher; and Nicole Endsley, high school English teacher.
Board members also approved the transfer of an elementary physical education teacher, Kala Peak, to high school physical education teacher.
Reid Merritt was reassigned from elementary school paraprofessional to elementary school physical education teacher by the board.
In other action, the board approved the 2016-2017 salary schedules, which include a 4 percent across-the-board raise for all employees, certified and otherwise. State funding covers for the most part the raises. However, for the three system positions that pay $75,000 or more annually—superintendent, Director of Special Programs and Chief Financial Officer—only a 2 percent raise was funded. Board members unanimously approved the additional 2 percent so that all employees would get the entire 4 percent.
A fiscal year 2016 budget amendment was approved and shows the system will have 77 percent of its required reserve operating budget at the end of September.
Board members also approved payment of $95,315.89 in May expenditures.
Action on Virtual School policy and the high school handbook was tabled until the July 20 meeting at 4:30 p.m. at the central office.
