An Ozark man reported missing Sunday, June 11, has been found dead.

Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker said that Robert Dylan Gunter of Ozark, 20 was found Wednesday, June 14, approximately 250 yards into the wood line near Alcuri Drive in Ozark, close to where he was last seen.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim,” Walker said.

A volunteer search party found Gunter, according to Walker. “Preliminary findings indicate that the victim died from a single gunshot wound, causing his death.”

Gunter was last seen on Alcuri Drive June 11 at around 7:15 a.m. He was reported missing that evening around 9:30 p.m. He was reported to have been wearing a red, long sleeve sweatshirt with khaki pants. Gunter was reported to have left his cell phone and all of his personal belongings at home before venturing into the woods near his home Sunday.

“The Ozark Police Department would like to thank all family, friends and volunteers that assisted with the searches conducted over the past three days,” Walker said, crediting OPD officers, the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Department of Corrections, the Dale County Coroner, search party volunteers and the Alabama Department of Game and Fish.
