During its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Daleville City Council voted to table two items of business for the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

During a Dec. 17, 2018 work session, Beasley told the council the three-row bleachers that were previously in the gym were placed at Culpepper Park after fields and other projects were completed, but some had to be brought back for gym seating. These bleachers, she said, are outside, aluminum bleachers.

She said she needs higher elevation bleachers to allow for more seating in the gym because of the space available for the bleachers. She said she would like to have at least five or six rows on the bleachers.

“I’ve contacted a couple of companies (for quotes),” she said. “They say once you get over about four rows high, they do not make the aluminum bleachers for indoors that are tilt and roll.”

She said the bleachers also need to be able to move for cleaning. She said she is in contact with other companies to see what quotes she can get without the bleachers being custom made.

At the Jan. 14 work session, Beasley said she was still having trouble finding the bleachers and prices.

“I did talk to a couple of other directors, and they recommended maybe trying the five row bleachers and getting some measurements in the gym to see how many more seating slots that will actually give me,” she said.

Moore said he did a basic internet search for bleachers and found prices that were cheaper than local prices Beasley had received for bleachers, though he did not know whether the bleachers were located out of state or if other fees would be added to raise the price.

Beasley said she has mostly focused on local vendors to supply the bleachers. Moore suggested she look online as well.

This item of business was tabled during the council’s Dec. 18, 2018 and Jan. 2 meetings. The council tabled this request for a third time during its Jan. 15 meeting.

Beasley also asked the council on Dec. 17 to consider adding an internet line at the Boy Scout Hut for students in the Parks and Recreation Department’s after-school program to use for homework.

Beasley first presented a price of $78.95 per month for internet services with Troy Cable.

After the council voted this item of business, council member Katheryne Horace said, “I was just concerned about the price, and I know this should have come before we voted. I would like to see us investigate to see if we can’t find a better price for that.”

During the Jan. 14 work session, Beasley presented the council with the idea to use a hotspot, available through a city-owned cellphone used at the Boy Scout Hut, to provide internet for students.

She said she was informed that the hotspot must be turned on and there would be an additional $40 charge to use the hotspot monthly.

Moore suggested the hotspot could be a free addition to the monthly bill associated with the cellphone.

The council tabled this item of business until a proposal from Verizon, who provides the city’s cellphone service, could be presented.

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
