Two Daleville High School Senior Beta Club members were selected as semifinalists in the 2014 National Beta Club Scholarship competition.
Payton Souders and Julius Hammond competed against more than 40,000 other senior Beta Club members for the semifinalist title, which is awarded based on Beta Club participation and leadership, academic achievement, and participation in extracurricular and service activities.
Both Souders and Hammond also submitted essays about the service projects they participated in. Hammond wrote about a local project that served a nursing home in Enterprise and Souders about an international project that raised funds to rebuild a school in the Philippines.
Souders was additionally honored as one of 256 Beta Scholars and will receive a scholarship of $1,000.
