The body of a Dale County woman who was found dead on East County Road 36 in Dale County on March 18 has been identified.

Dale County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Mason Bynum issued a statement on Friday June 16 that included the woman’s identity. “By DNA comparison the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences has positively identified the deceased as Virginia Sellers of Skipperville,” Bynum said.

Sellers, who was commonly known as “Ginger,” was reported last seen walking toward the H&W Convenience Store along Highway 105 in Skipperville on Nov. 12, 2016. Sellers was later reported missing in December of 2016. She was a mother of two and grandmother of three.

Sellers’ body was initially discovered about 5 p.m. on March 18 by Ozark-Dale County E911. “Due to the decomposition of the body, it was transported to the ADFS for identification and autopsy,” Bynum said.

Bynum reported investigators were contacted by the ADFS on June 15 in reference to the identity of the deceased person who was found.

“This is still an ongoing homicide investigation so limited information will be released at this time,” Bynum said.

“The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the Ozark and Dothan Police Departments as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab in Quantico, Va.”

Bynum went on to ask for community support.

“If anyone has any information regarding this case, please contact the Dale County Sheriff’s Office at 774-2335 or visit our website at www.daleso.com and click on the ‘Crime Tip’ section where you can leave an anonymous tip.”
