The Daleville boys basketball team finished its regular season on a high note Monday with a 66-36 victory against New Brockton.
Jaylyn Hinton scored the first six points for the Warhawks, who started the game on an 8-0 run, before Kyle Byrd put New Brockton on the board with a bucket.
Daleville finished the first quarter on a 14-5 run and had a 22-7 lead headed into the second.
The Warhawks picked up the momentum in the second quarter where they left off in the first, and began the frame with a 7-0 run.
Marquise Neal hit a basket for New Brockton to break the streak, but Daleville outscored the Gamecocks 8-1 at the end of the quarter and took a 35-8 lead at the break.
Daleville used a 12-2 run midway through the third quarter to open up a 54-20 lead before New Brockton scored six consecutive points.
The Warhawks made a basket at the end of the third quarter and had a 57-26 advantage to begin the fourth.
The Gamecocks outscored Daleville 10-9 in the final eight minutes, but the Warhawks secured a win for their senior class.
“It’s always good when everybody gets involved and everybody’s playing hard,” Daleville coach Troy Turman said. “I thought everybody played hard on defense, and that’s what we’ve been trying to do lately.”
Labrijan Bloodsaw led Daleville with 14 points, and Aaron Cope followed with 12. Coco Hayes recorded 10. Hinton and Darwin Mason each had eight points. Gator Crawford and Keon Ford had four points apiece. Robert McGirt and Eric Giles each added three.
Daleville swiped 17 steals, and Turman said the defense helped produce offense against the Gamecocks.
“I thought we generated a lot of points off of our transition and getting steals,” he said. “That helped us on offense as well.”
Cope, McGirt, Mason, Hayes, Crawford and Jonathan Pittman played their final regular season home game against the Gamecocks, but the seniors also helped Daleville to a 72-59 road win Jan. 31 against Houston Academy.
The Raiders led 18-13 after the first quarter, and clung to a 30-29 lead at the half.
“We started off kind of slow,” Turman said. “We played sluggish in the first half, but we finished on a 6-0 run to end the first half.”
Daleville took the lead in the third quarter and never relinquished it. The Warhawks outscored Houston Academy 23-9 in the frame, and led 52-39 heading into the fourth quarter.
“In the second half we were fresh,” Turman said. “We just really started imposing our will on them and putting a lot of pressure on them.”
Each team scored 20 points in the final quarter, and the Warhawks secured the win.
McGirt led with 23 points, and Cope followed with 15. Hinton scored 12, and Hayes had 10. Bloodsaw, Giles and Ford each had four.
The Warhawks play Dale County Friday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Class 3A, Area 3 tournament, which will be played at the Daleville City Schools gym across from Windham Elementary School.
