Visitors to the Daleville Public Library may see some new technology being used thanks to a FY 2019 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant.

“State libraries use the (LSTA) funds to support statewide initiatives and also distribute the funds through subgrants or cooperative agreements to public, school, academic, research, and special libraries,” the American Library Association website states. “LSTA consolidates federal library programs while expanding services for learning and access to information resources in all types of libraries for individuals of all ages.”

According to DPL Director Kathryn Brown, the library received notice it had received a $25,000 grant in August 2018. The $25,000 LSTA grant is comprised of $20,000 in LSTA funds and $5,000 in matching funds from the City of Daleville.

Brown said the library is purchasing 11 new computers and a large printer and laminator to support community and library program needs. Necessary supplies and programs for the new items will also be purchased using the grant.

She said these new items will help the library continue to serve the community.

“We have a lot of people who use our computers,” she said, stating that many use the library’s computers for job searches or homework and research. “We’re here for the community. Our resources don’t belong to us; they belong to the community.”
