The Level Plains Police Department and SpectreCare Health Systems are teaming up to help the Level Plains community learn about and prevent prescription drug abuse.
Ebony Crews, director of community programs for SpectreCare, said the event would provide a safe way for people to prevent substance abuse in their homes.
"We're working with local law enforcement to provide a safe way to get rid of unused and old prescriptions," Crews said. "We're aiming to get those medicines out of the house to prevent substance abuse."
According to Crews, the event will provide educational pamphlets and other information about prescription substance abuse.
"The police will also be there to pick up and help safely get rid of medicines," Crews said.
SpectreCare is a community health and substance abuse group that offers intervention and prevention programs to the community.
"We enjoy getting out in the community to promote prevention efforts," Crews said.
The event will be held at the Level Plains recreational center near The First Baptist Church of Level Plains from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 9.
