Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn was inducted into the Arkansas High School Hall of Fame, Friday at the Horner Hall in the Hot Spring Convention Center.

A native of Fort Smith, Ark., Malzahn coached high school football in the state of Arkansas from 1991-2005, winning three state titles and compiling a record of 133-26.

The AHSCA-AOA Hall of Fame was created in 1995 and had selected 213 members into its hall.  The AHSAAA started in 2007 and had 19 members. With this year's class the new Hall of Fame membership now stands at 247.

He got his start as the defensive coordinator at Hughes High School in 1991. He became head coach in 1992 and in 1994 Hughes reached the state championship game.

Malzahn's success at Hughes and his wide-open attack landed him a head coaching position at Shiloh Christian in 1996. From 1996-2000, he transformed Shiloh Christian into one of the most dynamic offensive prep squads in the nation. Malzahn guided the Saints to back-to-back state championships in 1998 and 1999.

In 2001, Malzahn took over at Springdale High School where he led the program to state championship game appearances in 2002 and 2004, before winning the title in 2005.

Malzahn was one of 15 honorees inducted into the hall of fame, including coaches, administrators and game officials. The other coaches inducted included Glenda Patterson, Jonesboro Westside (volleyball); Ron Ripp, Ozark (basketball); Gene Simmons, Murfreesboro (track); Charlie Sorrels, Atkins (football) and Herbert Williams, Brinkley (basketball).
