New Brockton assistant football coach Brad Smith and softball and assistant football coach Kris Rainey have reportedly been relieved of their coaching duties.
"I'm tenure so they didn't have any grounds to dismiss me as far as my teaching goes, but…coaching duties are non-tenureable so they can let you go at any time for them," Smith said. "To my knowledge that's what happened."
Smith said he received a "courtesy notice" of the termination of his coaching duties from school officials Wednesday, but does not know why the decision was made.
"I was trying to find out why, and nobody could tell me why, or they wouldn't tell me why," he said. "I have no idea. There has been nothing that has led to this, to my knowledge. I don't have a clue. This has all kind of been a shock to me for the past two days."
Smith also said he has not been officially notified of the decision as of Thursday night, and is not aware of any reason for the decision at this time.
"Maybe somebody has a reason, but it is unannounced to me," he said. "I have no idea. I don't have anything negative to say about what happened, except for the fact that there was no reason given for my coaching termination."
Smith served as the Gamecocks' offensive line coach and defensive coordinator. Rainey coached the New Brockton softball team, as well as the Gamecock running backs and linebackers.

Well.....they HAVE legally removed God from all schools, so now, on to his followers!!!!! The school will certainly feel the loss for this decision as I know God has a bigger plan for Coach Rainey and his faith will follow wherever it may lead.
