The regular quarterly meeting of the Enterprise Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association will be at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 4, in the city council chamber at City Hall. A yard sale with proceeds to benefit Relay for Life, sponsored by Sawyer Surgery Clinic and Medical Center Enterprise Teams will be held Saturday, April 6 at 8 a.m. at 101 E. Brunson Street (parking lot of doctor’s building.) There will be a multitude of different items for sale other than clothes. Also, tickets are available for items to be given away the night of Relay for Life, such as a year pre-paid car maintenance plan and half-side of beef. Goat milk soap, candy bars and breast cancer car magnets, drinks, hot dogs and hamburgers will be available to purchase.
The Weevil City Cruisers 17th annual Car Show is set for April 6 in conjunction with the Piney Woods Arts Festival on the grounds of Enterprise State Community College. Registration will be from 8 a.m. until noon. Registration fee is $25 with a $10 car corral. Goody bags and T-shirts will be given to the first 100 entrants. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, music, door prizes and an award for the most club participation. Sno 2 Go and a food vendor will be on site. The rain date is April 7. The Enterprise Civitan Club will meet April 9 at PoFolks Restaurant on Boll Weevil Circle in Enterprise. Members wishing to eat are encouraged to arrive no later than 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. meeting. The speaker will be a fellow civitan member, Mr. Pezent, from the Monroeville Civitan Club. Visitors are always welcome and membership is open to anyone age 18 or older. Also, tickets will be for sale for those who are interested in buying bags of Vidalia onions. Pastor Vernon McLeod and members of Johns Chapel AME Church in Enterprise invite the public to join them as they travel via chartered bus to Atlanta on April 12 to watch the Atlanta Hawks take on the Milwaukee Bucks at 7:30 p.m. EST at Philips Arena or shopping at an Atlanta mall. The charter bus fee is $35.31 per person. Tickets to the game are $25, $43 or $59 each, depending on the level of seats. Total cost for the game, including unlimited popcorn and soda and bus fee, will be $60.31, $78.31 or $94.31 depending on your arena seating choice, but does not include meals at stops during the trip. Departure time is Friday, April 12 at noon from Johns Chapel AME Church, 605 Geneva Highway, Enterprise. Approximate return time is 1:30 a.m. April 13. Clouds of sweet hickory-tainted smoke will again descend on the city of Dothan this spring at the Eighth Annual Tri-State BBQ Festival scheduled for April 12-13 at the Houston County Farm Center.
Last year, teams from around the Southeast competed for over $10,000 in prize money, trophies and bragging rights. The event maxed out their competition spaces in 2012, and it is expected to have a full field of competitors again this year. Professional and backyard competition teams are urged to register early to guarantee a spot in the competition that was featured last year on the hit TV show, BBQ Pitmasters.

Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department will have a City-Wide Yard Sale Saturday, April 13, from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m., in the parking lot of Moose Hope Gym. The department will rent 20x20 booths for $20. Each booth will consist of one 8-foot table and two chairs. For more information, call 348-2682.
The 5th Annual Enterprise Junior Women’s Club Boll Weevil 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run will be held Saturday, April 13. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. and 1 mile begins at 8:15 a.m. Entry fees are: 5K - $20 and Fun Run - $15. Check in and registration begins at 7:15 a.m. 5K and Fun Run will begin at the Boll Weevil Monument on Main Street in downtown Enterprise. Awards will be given to the top five male and female in the 5K. Fun Run awards will be given to the top five male and female under age 15. All children under 12 will receive a participation ribbon. The EJWC supports local charities throughout the year. This race serves as our annual fundraiser and proceeds from the race will be used to fund donations to these charities.
Wiregrass Women’s Connection is sponsoring a “Special Guest Brunch” Saturday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Enterprise Country Club, 3000 Ozark Hwy. The cost is $15. War veteran and decorated Navy Chief Alex Semmler of Panama City Beach, Fla., will be the guest speaker. Anchorwoman of Channel 7 News and wife of Alex Semmler, Neysa Wilkins Semmler will be the special feature. Reservations are required and cancellations are necessary by Thursday, April 11. The Boll Weevil Travel Club will be going on a trip to Orlando, Fla., April 22-26, to visit the Holy Land Experience, see an Arabian Nights equestrian dinner show, visit Winter Park Florida and much more. The Dothan Gem and Mineral Club will host its sixth annual Gem and Mineral Show on April 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westgate Park Recreation Center Gym in Dothan. Each Tuesday and Wednesday, Chapter 99 will maintain a DAV Service Office in the New Brockton police station. This office will assist veterans who were injured or disabled while in military service. DAV Service Officers help veterans and their spouses with disability compensation claims, VA pension, death benefits, VA medical care, Social Security disability benefits, veterans’ job programs, homeless veterans assistance and other veteran services. The Enterprise Senior Citizens Center is for anyone 60 years of age or older. There are a wide variety of free services each month, such as eye, blood pressure, hearing, blood sugar and cholesterol checks. The group takes trips, invites speakers, has parties and plans dinners at special places. Transportation is available within the city limits and delivered meals are offered to homebound senior citizens. For more information, call 347-3513.
