A Coffee County Sheriff's Department corrections officer was involved in an accident Feb. 18 while transporting a mental patient to Mizell Memorial Hospital in Opp.

The accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 134 and Highway 299 in Opp.

According to Opp Assistant Chief Kevin Chance, the wreck is still under investigation, however, it was determined one of the drivers ran through a red light.

The corrections officer driving a Coffee County Sheriff's Department Dodge Charger, identified as Craig Victor, had minor injuries, Chance said, however, the other vehicle, an F-250 driven by Thomas George Wells, of Montgomery, overturned.

Chance said after the wreck Victor was able to get out of his vehicle and provide aid to Wells.

Wells was transported by Life Flight to a Montgomery hospital. Chance said he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Another vehicle, an F-150 driven by Troy David Richburg, of Opp, was involved in the accident after the initial accident when his truck was hit by the vehicle driven by Victor. Chance said Richburg sustained no injuries and had minor damage to his vehicle.

The Opp Police Department continues to investigate the accident.
