The Coffee County Board of Education voted to renew the contracts of three principals during its regular meeting on Thursday, April 6.
Jennifer Lee currently serves as principal of Kinston School. Her contract will be renewed for three years.
Jason Hadden currently serves as principal of New Brockton Elementary School. He has served under a two-year probationary contract. His contract was renewed for three years.
Vohn Enloe currently serves as principal of Zion Chapel School. He has served under a one-and-a-half year probationary contract. His contract was also renewed for three years.
In other business, the board approved allowing Childhood Nutrition Program Director Jan Hendricks to bid for milk and produce products for the 2017-2018.
According to Superintendent Terry Weeks, the CNP program is required to bid out for products every three years.
The board also approved the following personnel changes:
Retirements:
Janice Hornsby, elementary teacher at Kinston School, beginning at the end of the current school year;
Debbie Nobles, elementary teacher at Kinston School, beginning at the end of the current school year;
Mary Mullen bus driver at Zion Chapel School, beginning at the end of the current school year;
Vivian Cole, bus driver at Zion Chapel School, beginning at the end of the current school year; and,
Leave:
Crystal Benson, teacher at New Brockton Elementary School. Catastrophic leave is expected to be utilized from March 15-24.
"We are losing two very experienced figures," Weeks said. "(Those two) happen to be from Kinston. Combined, I looked it up, they have over 55 years of teaching experience. They will certainly be missed at that school.
"We're also losing two very experienced bus drivers. Mrs. Mary Mullen and Mrs. Vivian Cole combined have over 51 years of bus driving experience. They are certainly going to be missed, but I hope they have some long years in their retirement and they enjoy it because they definitely deserve it."
Weeks also announced that the school system recently had an inspection of its bus fleet. Weeks said the inspector found no major deficiencies with the buses.
"They sent us the report, I guess, two weeks ago," Weeks said. "I don't know that we've ever received one that he said "excellent inspection" handwritten on it.
He also announced that Caroline Brown, from Zion Chapel, recently set a state record for hitting four homeruns in one softball game.
The next board meeting will be held on May 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Office.
