The city’s first gospel music event, “Enterprise Celebration” is just days away and local officials and residents are abuzz with excitement as the city prepares to welcome some of gospel music’s greatest.

Thousands are expected to fill Bates Memorial Stadium on Oct. 12 to hear the sounds of country/bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs; former Gaither Vocal Band baritone, solo artist and comedian Mark Lowry; top-selling gospel artist and host of DayStar Network’s “Gospel Music Showcase,” Guy Penrod; “America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music” The Hoppers, featuring award-winning soprano Kim Hopper; and singer-songwriter Russ Taff, who is known for his versatility in singing style from pop and contemporary Christian music to rhythm and blues.

“This is an absolutely great line-up of Christian artists that we are extremely excited to bring to the Wiregrass,” said Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell.

One of the performances Boswell said he’s most looking forward to is the Enterprise Community Mass Choir.

The choir is comprised of choirs from several different churches from across the city.

“I can’t wait to hear the Mass Choir,” he said. “The choir directors and volunteer choir members are already working hard to prepare for the concert, and this is going to be something of a magnitude that’s never been done here before.”

Set up for the event will begin tomorrow and continue until Sunday.

Event organizers are currently working on the layout to ensure the best possible experience for guests, said Jason Wright, city of Enterprise director of communications.

“We’re trying to make sure every detail is taken care of,” Wright said. “We’re hoping to host a first-class event, and we’re putting a lot of effort into it.”

Wright said one of the most important goals for the event is that it’s a family friendly day where residents can take time out of their regular lives to come together, set out some lawn chairs or blankets and listen to some great music.

Ticket sales have been good so far, but organizers are expecting a large walk up crowd, because the pre-sale ticket price and walk-up ticket price are so close, Wright said.

Pre-sale tickets are $28 and walk-up tickets are $30. Golden Circle tickets, which provide seats nearest to the stage, are nearly sold out at $82 or $125 the day of the show.

Group tickets are also available at $22 each for 20-49 tickets, and $17 each for 50 or more tickets.

Tickets are available at the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce, Dove Christian Supply (Enterprise and Dothan locations), Yancey Parker’s, Eagle Eye Outfitters in Dothan, Don Walker’s Western Wear in Troy, Pike County Chamber of Commerce, Elba Chamber of Commerce, Ozark Chamber of Commerce and Opp Chamber of Commerce.

Gates for the event open at 1 p.m. with performances beginning at 2 p.m. with the Wiregrass Gospel Celebration Ensemble followed by the John’s Chapel Praise Celebration Ensemble and the Enterprise Mass Choir.

Following the choirs will be performances from Russ Taff, The Hoppers and Guy Penrod. At 7:20 p.m., Mark Lowry will take the stage before Ricky Skaggs at 8:50 p.m.

“As the time draws nearer, I get more and more excited about the reasons that we wanted to bring this concert to our area – to bring the people together to enjoy great music, and celebrate the values and beliefs that are such a significant and meaningful part of our lives,” Boswell said. “I hope you all are as excited as I am, and I know you’re going to get on board with us to make this event as successful as possible.”
