The first female superintendent in the history of Enterprise City Schools will remain in that position.
Dr. Camille Wright, superintendent of Enterprise City Schools since Jan. 2, 2014, had been listed as one of five finalists for the position of superintendent of Decatur City Schools.
In an afternoon press conference at the Enterprise Schools Central Office, Wright announced Monday, May 2, that she had withdrawn her name for consideration and would remain in the Enterprise top slot.
“I am going to try to do this without getting emotional,” Wright told a room filled with media representatives and school personnel. “I made the decision Friday to withdraw my name from the Decatur City Schools Superintendent race.
“A big part of it was the Innovation Celebration on Thursday and seeing all the things that we’ve been working on for two years come together in such a way that was so meaningful for students,” Wright said. “Reflecting back, what’s money anyway,” she said with a smile. “It’s about making a difference for kids.
“I couldn’t leave before we get finished. We’ve got the perfect staff, the perfect people to work with and I’ve got a perfect board (of directors),” Wright said. “This is home, this is family and it’s become family a lot more so than I realized.
“So you’re stuck with me until the board decides otherwise,” Wright said. “I love this place and I love y’all.”
Wright came to Enterprise from Madison City Schools where she served as director of instruction. Her experience in the education field includes being a first, third, fifth, seventh, eighth and 10th grade teacher, a school counselor, coach, athletic director and a principal at all school levels.
Wright received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Auburn University and received her doctorate in administration and supervision from the University of Alabama.
Enterprise Board of Education President Burt Barr was present at the announcement but declined comment.

I have many teacher friends in the Enterprise system; they say that under Dr. Wright morale has been at an all-time low.

I really thought this might be the way we got rid of her, but I guess not. When will our school board get a backbone and do the right thing. None of our teachers has any respect for her and I am so glad my daughter has only one year left in this school system. I do feel for the other parents that have kids still yet to come through this system. Our school system used to be at the top of the list, but with the leadership we have now, God help us.

What a crock! Dr. Wright knew that she was not being chosen for the Decatur City Schools. She is trying hide that she was not chosen. I do not know of any teacher in our system that likes or respects this bully supt. The people she hired at central office are made of the same cloth. She needs to go away. Our teachers have lost their spirit. It is so sad! Please pray for our school system!
