A man wanted as a fugitive from justice in New York was arrested in Elba Wednesday, Feb. 3.
According to Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton, Andrew D. Fletcher, 24, from Rochester, N.Y., was taken into custody by deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Twelfth Judicial Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Marshal Service at approximately 6 a.m.
Fletcher was arrested at a house on Marin Luther King Drive in Elba.
Fletcher is wanted in New York for first-degree assault.
According to Sutton, the warrant indicates that Fletcher stabbed a female victim at least eight times and then fled to Alabama.
Fletcher is in Coffee County Jail awaiting extradition back to New York.
