The Coffee County Board of Education voted to end Don McPherson's term as superintendent on Thursday, July 9.
The separation agreement was approved by a 4-3 vote.
The decision came after three special-called meetings with executive sessions to discuss the separation.
Board President Shag LaPrade said in a statement that the decision was a mutual agreement between the board and McPherson.
"The term of Dr. McPherson serving as superintendent of the Coffee County Board of Education ended tonight as a result of ongoing negotiations between Dr. McPherson and the board," LaPrade said. "Dr. McPherson's contract has been concluded by mutual agreement. The separation agreement between Dr. McPherson and the board will fully and finally resolve all differences between the board and Dr. McPherson."
