During a special called meeting of the Enterprise City Board of Education April 8, board members unanimously made the decision to decommission Enterprise Junior High School and move all its eighth grade students to Dauphin Junior High School.

According to Superintendent Dr. Camille Wright, no rezoning will be needed and no changes will be made to the configuration of Coppinville Junior High School.

Wright also said no teachers would lose their jobs as a result of the realignment.

"As always, the Enterprise City School System strives to do the best for our students, faculty and staff while maintaining fiscal responsibility to the taxpayers," Wright said. "We want to ensure our students are taught in a 21st century learning environment at all levels and are being prepared for a global environment."

The shift was needed after a decision by the board in February to move all ninth grade students to Enterprise High School beginning with the 2014-2015 school year.

A 40-member steering committee was formed to decide what the best option was for the future of the system's three junior high schools.

The committee used information obtained by a comprehensive study by the Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood engineering firm, which outlined the projected student enrollment and current school configurations and facilities.

Wright said the school system would still maintain the EJHS property until a further decision is made regarding the property.

I am all for the ninth graders moving to the high school but why would you not close Coppinville, it is in a bad part of town, it is run down and just a bad place. Why not put all seventh graders and eighth graders per the zoning in EJHS and Dauphin?
