Fire departments from across Dale County responded to what appear to be a large brush fire on Highway 134 between Newton and Daleville March 8.

According to Daleville Police Chief Harvey Mathis, dispatch received a call about 6:30 p.m. concerning a large brush fire in Newton.

Mathis said Daleville Fire and Rescue Squad along with Newton and Clayhatchee fire departments responded to the scene to find a controlled burn on a private landowner's property.

The property is located in the 3600 block of Highway 134 East within the Daleville fire coverage area.

Mathis said the fire was under control.
