For residents who are still looking for something fun to do this Fourth of July, Fort Rucker is hosting its annual Wiregrass Freedom Fest today at 4 p.m. on the Fort Rucker Festival Fields.

The event, which is an annual celebration of the nation’s independence, is scheduled to conclude with the area's largest fireworks show at 9 p.m.

The festival is free and open to the public.

Fort Rucker director of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Timothy Laster, said the event is expected to last for hours and will feature a plethora of food and craft vendors, live music from the 98th Army “Silver Wings” Band, rides, games, children’s inflatables, Red Thunder Air Show Team fly-overs, and of course, a spectacular fireworks display.

The 98th Army Band will be serving up three sets of music including jazz, rock and country, beginning at 6 p.m.

Right before the massive fireworks display, the band will take to the stage one last time to perform with special guest vocalist McKayla Reece, 14, who will be performing “Heaven was Needing a Hero,” as a tribute to fallen service members.

This year Fort Rucker is proud to announce it will be partnering with its neighboring cities Daleville, Dothan, Enterprise and Ozark.

Fort Rucker officials are asking everyone to please come out, have a great time and enjoy the Freedom Fest activities.
