The Alabama PALS (People Against a Littered State) is a 501 C3 non-profit organization based in Montgomery.

On Nov. 13, the organization held the 2013 PALS Statewide Governor’s Awards Program in Prattville. The annual program recognizes volunteers, statewide groups, schools, teachers, cities and other entities dedicated to making Alabama truly, “Alabama the Beautiful.”

Rucker Boulevard Elementary School received second place among the 2012-2013 Alabama Clean Campus winners, and representatives from the school traveled to Prattville to receive the award.

Rucker Boulevard won the award because of its outdoor classrooms, which features composting, greenhouses, raised gardens and several other opportunities for outdoor learning and environmental education.

Alabama PALS sponsors various anti-litter programs across the state, as it has for the last 26 years.

The organization is mostly known for sponsoring the “Adopt-a-Mile” and “Adopt-a-Stream” programs, among other environmental initiatives.
