Mayor Claudia Wigglesworth was appointed to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) 2013 Military Communities Council (MCC).

The MCC is a group of elected and municipal officials from municipalities that host or are in close proximity to a military installation and face unique challenges due to this circumstance.

The council’s objectives are to assist cities, NLC and state municipal leagues in gathering, sharing and analyzing information about opportunities, issues and policies of interest to military communities.

MCC also serves to foster a spirit of cooperation between military installations and municipal governments.

Mayor Wigglesworth feels serving on this council is important to Daleville.

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve on the Military Communities Council. I am excited to work with other cities to share best business practices of working with a military community.”

As a member of the council, Mayor Wigglesworth will help strengthen connections between the council, state municipal leagues and NLC as a whole and ensure that the needs and concerns of military communities are represented in NLC policy and priorities.

The 2013 chair of the Military Communities Council is Thomas Reardon, council member, Sierra Vista, Ariz.

This year’s vice chairs are Arturo Pecos, city commissioner, of Kingsville, Texas and Martha Sue Hall, council member, of Albemarle, N.C.

The group encourages the active involvement of military communities in the organization, its policy-making process and in programs at NLC.

For more information on NLC’s other committees and councils, visit nlc.org.

The National League of Cities is the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance.

NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
