The Dale County District Attorney's office is now offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a suspect(s) pertaining to an alleged arson that occurred Aug. 15 at Daleville's city shop.
According to police, the city shop was broken into late Thursday night and had several city equipment and vehicles set on fire.
The city shop, located on Robert C. Barns Street, houses the street and sanitation department's vehicles and equipment, as well as other city tools.
Daleville Police Chief Harvey Mathis said rescue squad volunteers noticed shortly after 10 p.m. several city vehicles and equipment were on fire when they arrived on the scene to refuel their vehicles.
Daleville police and fire departments responded to the scene.
Mathis said the fire was quickly extinguished.
Equipment and vehicles damaged or destroyed in the fire include two bush hog tractors, a bucket truck and a knuckle boom brush truck. The pole barn, which houses the vehicles, was also severely damaged.
According to city officials, the damage is estimated to be at least $250,000.
Mathis said the Daleville Police Department is investigating the case as arson.
"Fire was found burning inside the cab of a truck with the doors closed," Mathis said. "Several vehicles were set on fire at the same time (and) a distinctive odor of kerosene was also detected. No kerosene (is) used at (the) city shop."
Mathis said the department is seeking the public's help in finding out more information about the case.
"We're asking the public, anybody with any knowledge, anyone who heard anyone talk about it, joke about (or) anybody that made any mention about destroying the city's equipment in Daleville, we want to hear about it," Mathis said.
Meanwhile, police investigators continue to investigate potential leads.
"There are no suspects at this time," Mathis said. "We will do everything we can to find this person and bring them to justice."
Anyone with any information on the case is asked to contact the Daleville Department of Public Safety at 598-4442.
