Alabama Aircraft Support welcomed Governor Robert Bentley and other state officials today to break ground on the new hangar located at the Enterprise Municipal Airport.
The $12 million, 60,000 square-foot facility will house 200 new jobs, and make an estimated annual impact of $18 million in the Wiregrass.
Wiregrass Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Jonathan Tullos called the day a cause for celebration because it helps in the initiative set out by Bentley to create jobs in Alabama.
"We always need to remember that this is part of our overall strategic plan, dealing with the aircraft industry, called Accelerate Alabama," Bentley said. "We're getting more and more aircraft industries in the state of Alabama, and I think that's very important."
Bentley said one of the greatest compliments the state can get is when a great company expands in Alabama.
"It shows the confidence that companies have in Alabama as they see this tremendous workforce that we have and the workforce training that we have," he said. "All of these things put together make a difference."
Alabama Aircraft Support will create high-wage jobs that will focus on helicopter and fixed-wing maintenance, refurbishment and avionics engineering.
Its president, Ronnie Kearns, thanked the people who helped make the project come to fruition.
He referred to the groundbreaking as a joyous occasion to be able to make the vision a reality.
"I look forward to standing here with you ... for a ribbon cutting ceremony in the fall," Kearns said.
